Frederick Douglass Day 2022
Parade -10am
The Frederick Douglass Day Parade began at 10 am. The parade featured local dignitaries and government leaders, the Easton High School Band, Easton Middle School Band, Cambridge South Dorchester Band, BEST Brothers, GEMS, BAAM boys and girls, Foundation of Hope, Easton High School NJROTC, Boy Scouts, Hispanic Dancers, Polaris Village Academy Dancers, Dr. Robert Levine, Joy Priest, Mayor and Mrs. Robert Willey, and members of the Frederick Douglass Honor Society. The parade ran from the Easton Elementary School on Glenwood Avenue to the front of the Talbot County Court House.
Welcome Ceremony – 10:30am
The Frederick Douglass Day Welcome Ceremony featured local dignitaries, North Meets South (Tenor Dr. John Wesley Wright and guitarist Dr. Danielle Cumming), Sara Chappel, music by the Easton High and Middle School Bands, Cambridge South Dorchester High School Band, Poet and author Joy Priest, a Frederick Douglass recitation by Lance Morris, NJROTC, BAAM, Reverend Nancy M. Dennis, Brenda Wooden (Frederick Douglass Honor Society President), and Mistress of Ceremonies Autumn Redman. September 24, 2022 at 10:30 am, the front lawn of the Talbot County Court House.
Children’s Village – 11am to 3:30pm
Hands-on-activities, face painting, history, prizes, photo opportunities, mapping game, free coloring books, reading of Frederick Douglass books, and can be enjoyed at the Children’s Village. (Talbot County Free Library)

Featured Frederick Douglass artifacts, Frederick Douglass paintings by artist and teacher Laura Era, owner of Troika Gallery, readings by Shauna Beulah, a Frederick Douglass video, and Douglass panels by Celeste-Marie Bernier. (Talbot County Free Library)
Learning About Frederick Douglass – 11am
Produced for Frederick Douglass Day 2022 in celebration of the life of Frederick Douglass. This film teaches about Frederick Douglass and the Douglass family and includes talks with Celeste-Marie Bernier, Kenneth B. Morris, Jr. and Shauna Beulah.
Book Talk – 11:45am
Jeff McGuiness spoke about his newly released book, Bear Me into Freedom – The Talbot County of Frederick Douglass. A limited number of books were available for purchase and signing. (Talbot County Free Library)

Geocaching – 12 Noon
Pickup your passport with map and instructions and explore the new Frederick Douglass Geocaching Trail created by Autumn Redman and Girl Scouts #1308. Learn about his life in Talbot County and collect a commemorative coin and photograph at the end of the trail. (Talbot County Free Library)
Keynote Speaker – 1 pm
Distinguished Professor Dr. Robert Levine, an influential force in American and African literature for over thirty years, is the author of The Failed Promise: Reconstruction, Frederick Douglass, and the Impeachment of Andrew Johnson. Levine shared the story of Frederick Douglass’ heated struggle with President Andrew Johnson over the rights of Black Americans in the years immediately following the Civil War. A book signing followed the lecture. (Talbot County Free Library).

Life In Talbot County: Through the Eyes of Frederick Douglass – 3:15
Produced for the Frederick Douglass Honor Society for the 2022 Frederick Douglass Day, the film uses Frederick Douglass’s own words, read by Keidrick Roy, about his life as a young slave in Talbot County. Set against visuals filmed in and around Talbot County from the Tuckahoe River to the Wye Plantation, the film follows Frederick’s journey towards freedom. As Douglass said, “You have seen how a man became a slave; you shall see how a slave becomes a man”
